About Me

Hi, I’m Kat.

The first time I picked up a dumbbell, I was 17, though I developed a love for movement as early as I can remember. It was when I moved to Colorado in my mid-30s that I fell in love with trail running and for the first time, saw myself as an athlete. I ran my first and last 50-miler at the age of 41 and I was in heaven every single second of the ten and a half hours it took me to finish. I thought I was just getting started, but only three years later I discovered that I had developed focal osteoarthritis in my knees – my kneecaps had sawed through the articulating cartilage over the course of thousands of miles and that closed the chapter on running for me. It was devastating and I spent three years deep in grief, as it was not just the sport of running that I lost, but my identity and my community.

I tried to fill the void with bikes – gravel, road, mountain, dirt jumpers… and it was fun, but it didn’t captivate me the way running had and I found it difficult to form a new community as I had done organically through running. During that time, I was working with a trainer, leaning into strength training with more volume and structure. There was something about the process that cultivated a sort of conscious discipline that I never needed when it came to running. I liked the way that made me feel and I began to feel a flicker of inspiration.

Three years later I decided to get my personal training certification as my interest grew and my own needs became more complex. The variety of clients that I train have very different needs and goals – from a former BMX pro to a breast cancer survivor to a 50-something fitness fanatic – each program looks very different, but strength training impacts everyone’s quality of life. There’s no wrong reason to take up strength training and there’s no better investment of time or money than your health. Whether you want to improve your bone density or work towards a physique goal, I’m ready to help you. What’s waiting for you in your next phase?
